The Woaw store opening last Thursday was not a low-key affair. From a lengthy lion dance, including a two-story high performance, to having Jay Z’s DJ, Young Guru perform, Gough Street was buzzing with excitement.
The shop, which occupies a two-story space, features a selection of contemporary brands covering categories such as backpacks, jewelry, hats, sunglasses, shoes, fragrances, skincare, and digital lifestyle items.
Hong Kong Hustle readers might remember reading about the Woaw pop-up store in Causeway Bay back in 2011. The new shop expands upon the offerings at that shop, branching out with additional brands and items.
The location on Gough Street is an interesting choice. The area was once a sleepy, low rent street, but it’s now home to names such as Agnes B and Ralph Lauren. Other lifestyle shops such as Homeless have been on the street for several years, which is part of the charm of the evolving neighborhood – it provides an alternative for people who don’t like to shop in malls.
Especially with Christmas around the corner, the Woaw shop is worth a look. They carry brands that are hard to find in the city, such as Reve by Rene sunglasses, and unique, quirky pieces such as necklaces adorned with solid gold fishhooks! For the hard to shop for, they even have exotic items like artisanal toothpicks! (That definitely gets a Woaw!)
The opening party packed both floors with fashionable guests.
Attendees on the ground floor congregated towards the rear of the store near the open-air balcony and kitchen, which provided access to a constant flow of food and drinks.
Upstairs, Young Guru played a solid set, running through 90’s Hip Hop and into Dancehall music over the course of the night.
Y.G. played with a New York quick cut style, jumping from track to track in a minute or less. The classic beats had the crowd upstairs dancing from start to finish.
Have a look at the Woaw store Facebook page for more details on their selections.
