Simon Birch, one of our favorite Hong Kong artists, (in fact a painting of his graces the header of this site,) is opening a new exhibit titled Hooligan on Wednesday, April 10th.

A highly acclaimed artist and active member of Hong Kong’s art community, Simon is known for pushing boundaries and working to include other local artists in his exhibitions.

Rather than being an elitist, or an art-for-art-sake wannabe, Simon has continually sought to create shows that reach and captivate the Hong Kong public.

Now represented by Ben Brown Fine Arts, a London-based, internationally known gallery, Simon’s upcoming exhibition will take place at the Hong Kong branch of Ben Brown in the Pedder Building, Central.

The show is made up of a series of paintings featuring figures captured in a state of explosive movement.

For an interesting read and more insight into Simon’s career, have a look at a blog post he recently wrote detailing all the past shows that didn’t come to fruition.

Rather than a tale of failure, it’s an inspiration to read about his perseverance and commitment to making art in H.K..

Highly recommended!
