Hong Kong’s highest fashion show?

Italian clothing brand Pinko held what may have been Hong Kong’s highest fashion event last Friday on the 75th floor of Central Plaza.

Central Plaza is the city’s second tallest skyscraper and the highest reinforced concrete building in the world. The Apex, the event space located on the 75th floor, is unique not only for its view, but also for its futuristic atmosphere. Looking around the room at the web of beams surrounding the three story high windows, I couldn’t help but feel like I was inside the Deathstar from the original Star Wars movie!

Peering down through the windows, the experience is like you’re flying in a spaceship above the city.

For the night, the venue featured sleek, glossy black stages, a d.j. booth and a ‘U’ shaped runway. The catwalk was built along the windows with the d.j. booth and central stage set in the middle.

The center of the room is occupied by an elevator bank that did indeed look like part of a spaceship!

Although not the tallest building in Hong Kong, (that bragging right goes to IFC2,) Central Plaza offers a distinct angle on the city since it’s located in Wanchai, a neighborhood off to the side from its closest rivals in height.

To reach The Apex it takes three elevator changes, which makes it a potential bottleneck for larger events, though there are multiple elevator banks until you reach the final interchange.

The four-segment fashion show featured a small army of walkers including two of Hong Kong’s top models: Ana R. and Lisa S.

Here’s a view of Central Plaza towering over its neighbors that I took from Bowen Road. The event was held in the triangle at the very top.
