Converse held a special preview of their Spring Summer 2013 sneaker collection in a raw, unfurnished space in Sai Ying Pun on December 7th.
The three-floor venue included a few interesting surprises such as a fascinating Hong Kong skyline (photo above) made from shadows!
The art direction of the space was particularly creative and made excellent use of the genuinely dilapidated interior.
Pro-sneaker slogans – a Converse theme for 2013 – adorned an entire wall at the front entrance and ran up a central staircase.
The presentation at the press event was well beyond the norm and will hopefully be an omen for more interesting things to come.

The collection itself was as impressive as it was vast. Converse is adept at re-inventing their signature ‘Chuck Taylor’ design to match the zeitgeist. The camouflage and animal print sneakers below are a good example.
Not bad for a sneaker first manufactured in 1917! 😉
In addition to classic Converse sneakers, the show included their collaboration lines, such as a project with Marimekko, as well as their Jack Purcell brand, which also demonstrates how a venerated style can be rejuvenated by interesting fabric choices.
Jack Purcell’s go Hawaiian!
Besides the press, the event attracted an influential fashion industry crowd who could be seen snacking away and socializing throughout the night.
