Hong Kong indie nightspot XXX Gallery is starting off the new year with a packed schedule. Friday night is the latest installment of Wall of Sound, their party ode to Pop music of the 50’s and 60’s, and Saturday features a pioneer in the Dubstep genre – Kode9, the founder of Hyperdub records.
But that’s just the beginning. The rest of the month includes multiple back-to-back events. Stay tuned to Hong Kong Hustle for more info on their upcoming DJs, art exhibitions, and parties.
If you haven’t been to the new XXX, it’s located a little further out in Western district. The new venue is a massive improvement that includes a larger space, a full bar, and much better bathrooms! It’s no longer B.Y.O.B., but the drinks are moderately priced and the atmosphere is friendly with an alternative vibe.
Check out our detailed directions on how to get to the new XXX Gallery.
Wall of Sound
Friday night mixes Motown hits with Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound,” to create a powerhouse of music from the 1950’s and 60’s. The featured DJs include: Lost Kids, Paul Jones Pop Safari, and Enso.
Hyperdub’s Kode9
Saturday night will be intense, with leading Dubstep label boss Kode9 taking over the turntables supported by local talents Rolec, Nerve, Yao, and Enso. Kode 9’s Hyperdub label has a roster that is a Who’s Who of quality electronic music.
The two nights represent the diversity (and importance) of a music-focused club that doesn’t pander to lowest common denominator tastes.
