If you say you love House music and don’t come to check out the trio of Louie Vega, David Morales, and Tony Humphries playing at Tazmania Ballroom on Wednesday, then we simply don’t believe you! Any one of these DJs is enough to get excited about, but the combination of three of them together is reason to take Thursday morning off.

If you’re into so called “Deep House” come get a lesson in what the genre actually means from three guys who pioneered the House sound and introduced audiences around the world to its many pleasures.

The lineage of these three DJ / remixer / producers is impeccable. Few djs can claim as many influential dance floors as any one of these DJs, let alone three. David Morales, Tony Humphries, and Louie Vega, have each dominated the top nights for House in New York City for over 30 years! Far from a retro sound, they specialize in timeless dance music that doesn’t stand still.

Kings of House NYC

Louie Vega
Nicknamed “the Miles Davis of House music,” and a favorite of Dragon-i founder Gilbert Yeung, Louie Vega is legendary in Hong Kong for his lengthy sets. One particular marathon night at Dragon-i had him eating a salad behind the decks after an all-night session went until morning. Have a look back at earlier Little Louie Vega performances in H.K.

Tony Humphries
Tony Humphries has influenced several generations of dance music fans and reached audiences around the world particularly from his famous late-night radio show on New York’s KISS FM. Tony spread the House sound via homemade cassettes of his show to far away places, introducing people to his masterful mixing and sophisticated selections that helped define the New York House sound.

David Morales
David Morales is another looming figure in the history of House. A look back at the clubs he has resided in (Loft, Paradise Garage, and The Sound Factory,) traces the very roots of the dance genre.

As a remixer David Morales has worked with quite literally, the biggest names in music. These include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston, The Pet Shop Boys, U2, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and Jocelyn Brown – to name a few.

Many of the nights around Hong Kong that claim to be focused on “Deep House” instead offer watered down, easy-to-digest and formulaic music. Now is the perfect time to recalibrate your definition and experience the true heart and soul of House music.

Here’s a promo for the Kings Of House NYC in Tokyo

The Kings of House party is a salute to local music lover Roy Malig, well known in Hong Kong for his decades as both a DJ and a record store owner. Roy can often be found at gigs with a handful of classics tucked under his arm, politely waiting to meet the artist who he has often helped support for years via his shop. It’s guys like Roy that have allowed dance music to grow and reach wider audiences over the decades. Special thanks to Gilbert for organizing and hosting this remarkable event for music lovers!
