Outlook Music Festival, now in its fifth season in Hong Kong, is set to take place on Saturday, May 13th. Unlike other recent outdoor fests, which lean towards Pop stars and big names, Outlook is focused entirely on underground dance music.
Each year the event draws both international and local DJs who spin genres including house, techno, drum-n-bass, reggae, dub, hip hop, garage, grime, and even more obscure niches of dance music.
Outlook is held in a large outdoor space called the Whitehead BBQ area in the Ma On Shan part of the New Territories. Its remote location is ideal for an all-day celebration of bass-heavy music, as noise complaints are unlikely. Those who have attended Clockenflap over the years understand that volume control has become a big issue both in West Kowloon and at the Central waterfront.
At Outlook Hong Kong, you won’t hear commercial songs, or mainstream EDM sounds. What you will discover are DJs who are passionate about the music they play and are up for sharing their enthusiasm and favorite selections with the audience.
The DJs contain an interesting mix of veterans and up-and-comers. The full line-up has not yet been released, however, there are already a large number of DJs participating.
A few of the confirmed names include: Stray (Exit Records / 20/20 LDN), DJ Saiyan, Blood Dunza, Burnie, Ishio Dai, DJ Subcoat, DJ Zuju, Nerve, Frankie Lam, AKW, Casey Anderson, Totoro Typhoon, Pomegranate Sounds, DJ 108, Immuno, Just Bee, Kemikal Kris x Wesley Jamison, Upbeat Cynic, MC R-Vee, and Sinking Summer.
Building up their audience over the last several years, Outlook festival attracts a strong mix of local and foreign music lovers who don’t mind getting sweaty and dancing to diverse sounds.
As has come to be the norm at outdoor events, on top of the music, there will be art installations and food stalls integrated as well.
