I just listened to a minute of D.J. Muro’s song selections before deciding that I’ll be hitting Dragon-i this Wednesday! The rapper / d.j. is a veteran of Japan’s Hip Hop scene and has collaborated with international luminaries such as De La Soul, Kool G Rap, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon from the Wu Tang Clan.
D.J. Muro specializes in “beat diggin'” which means scouring old thrift stores for records containing forgotten songs or snippets that are particularly funky.
Although Dragon-i plays host to some excellent d.j.s, (such as Little Louie Vega last weekend,) it can also be a tough place to spin if the audience is expecting only commercial music.
If the following two videos are any indication of his selections, it will be their loss and heaven for fans of sophisticated, soulful music.
