If you’re a long time Hong Kong resident, there’s a good chance you haven’t been to the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sai Ying Pun. Made from reclaimed land, it was part of the harbor just a few years ago!
Much like the West Kowloon waterfront promenade, the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park provides an excellent quality of life boost to the city.
The park is a standout for several reasons. It has historical significance as the spot where Sun Yat Sen (unable to come ashore legally,) would meet his associates on a boat.
The highlight of the park though, is the statue of Sun Yat Sen surrounded by a large round grass lawn. The space is well manicured and you can actually sit and enjoy the grass without being yelled at (a real luxury in Hong Kong!)
On the Eastern side of the lawn there are basketball courts and soccer fields (aka football pitches). The Western side has a sports building with a massive indoor swimming center. There’s also a children’s playground near the front of the sports complex.
The main entrance is at the intersection of Eastern Street and Connaught Road West, in Sai Ying Pun.

In addition to the lawn and the other facilities, there’s a long, relaxing waterfront promenade with benches.
Getting there
The main pedestrian overpass that leads to the park is located near the intersection of Connaught Road West and Eastern Street.
There are however several pedestrian bridges that traverse Connaught Road starting from Western Market that you can also take.
By public transportation you can take the MTR to Sheung Wan and take the Macau Ferry Terminal exit. From there you can walk a few blocks West along the waterfront to get to the park.
The tram is another option, and you should exit somewhere close to Eastern Street, and take the footbridge on Connaught Road.
An even easier option is to take a taxi there. You can simply tell the driver Sai Ying Pun, and show them the image from this post that has the name written in Chinese.
